There IS no magic pill!
Apr 29, 2023Ladies, there IS no fast track. There is NO magic pill. If there was, I would have found it. It surely wasn't for lack of time and effort spent. Not to mention the money I threw away on programs, books, supplements, complete 'systems'! I definitely contributed my share to the 'diet industry' over the years.
I remember back in the day listening to Oprah in an interview, saying 'I'm one of the richest people in the world. If there was a pill I could buy, I would buy it. If there was a rare food or bean that would do the trick, I would travel there and get it'. She was talking about her life experience trying to find the 'it' that would allow her to lose the weight and keep it off. The truth being that there IS no way around it. You have to change the things that you do daily if you want to change your life.
Yes, you can lose weight quickly. I have done it several times. There are pharmaceuticals out there you can take for a period of time and you will lose weight (at what risk?). You can cut out all the carbs and drop a lot of weight quickly. You can take a fat blocker and lose some weight, there are so many ways.
In truth you can go on ANY weight loss plan and lose weight. Most plans can and WILL work if you follow them. Low carb, low fat, Slim Fast, South Beach, Mediterranean, Keto...they all work!
Heck, the cabbage soup diet works!
The question is, do you want to keep losing and gaining this weight over and over and over again?
Are you able to sustain that new eating plan, and make it a LIFESTYLE? Do you want to continue to live your life waiting for the other shoe to drop....knowing this pattern and knowing the day will come that you just won't be able to continue on eating this way? Holding on to your plus sizes 'just in case'?
I am not knocking ANY eating plans by the way. If it is something you can see yourself doing 3, 5, 10 years from now, go for it! In fact, I have learned a lot about Keto and Mediterranean eating plans and many other plans that have amazing health benefits. Kudos to those who can sustain this lifestyle!
But for me, and many like me, sticking to a 'plan or program' just isn't realistic. Life isn't a plan or a program! Health isn't a program.
I think many times we kid ourselves into believing we ARE making it a lifestyle. A lifestyle is something that you choose because it is working for you. It is allowing you to live your life in a way that comes easily and that you ENJOY. It is a choice.
White knuckling it for 2 weeks of the month, and then going off the deep end for a few days, a week at a time...then starting back up again on 'Monday' isn't a lifestyle. This is a maintenance plan. For the most part it is usually for the sole intent of losing weight, and then losing it again because you regressed. It isn't usually for the health of it.
How do I know all of this to be true? Because THIS was my life for 20+ years! I lost weight so many times I honestly cannot count. Sometimes 10-15 lbs, sometimes 40-50 lbs! There were times I was able to maintain the weight loss for as long as 6 months...not usually much longer. It always seemed to find it's way back.
I went on a doctor supervised fasting program at 19 years old (supposedly supervised). Drinking ONLY protein shakes for 90 days. I lost 68 lbs in 90 days. With God as my witness I didn't eat so much as a piece of gum or a leaf of lettuce in those 90 days. And guess what...I regained all 68 lbs PLUS an additional 40 lbs in a matter of months.
On this plan I reached my weight loss goal with ALL the intentions of turning my life around, eating healthy, exercising. It was going to be so much easier now that I finally lost the weight right? I mean, I starved myself for 3 months...surely eating chicken and salad every day would be easy in comparison? As hard as I tried, I quickly fell back into my old patterns and way of eating because that is what I knew. It was an extremely humiliating and stressful experience that I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
Why did I gain the weight back in a hurry? Because I didn't learn anything! I wasn't learning moderation. I wasn't learning to take care of my body and value my health. I wasn't going through the process of trial and error, finding out what new habits I could sustain.
I look back now and realize that I was definitely not coming from a place of LOVE when I put myself through these extreme (and dangerous) plans.
A sustainable lifestyle is tailored to YOU. To what you are willing to change permanently in your lifestyle and your way of eating. This is something you will come to realize ONLY when you go through the process of trial and error, and learning the WHY of your eating behaviors!
It will be a way of life that you will learn to love, because of how good you feel and because you have learned the benefits that come along with it. Most importantly you will sustain this lifestyle because you have learned to love and value yourself and care about your future health.
This does not mean that if you choose to eat whole foods and cut out sugar that you will NEVER eat sugar or processed foods again. It means that you are happy and content with the way you live, eat...etc and you won't have the need to indulge all the time. You will get to a point where the 'splurge' will be more of the exception rather than the norm. It may sound unrealistic, but trust me, you can get there! It IS possible!
Through the process of losing the weight ONCE AND FOR ALL, I can help to educate you on the 'why' and the 'how' of nutrition, mindset, and lifestyle. These past few years I have really focused on educating myself in all the different faucets of health. There are SO MANY things I have learned that finally clicked with me. Things that I had heard, but never really knew the why!
Knowing now the many ways I had been putting myself in high risk categories for illness and disease...cancers even, has really helped me to CEMENT in the many changes and improvements I have made to my life.
Getting clear, updated and true information helps you to make good choices when it comes to your nutrition, food, activity level and every day behaviors. Knowledge is power.
When we know better, we do better!
There are patterns in my life I have finally been able to realize and change because of what I have learned. I am at the age that I have to consider my future health. I have grand-babies on the way that I want to be here for!
There are things that you just can't 'unlearn' when it comes to nutrition AND health! I am happy for this, because I want to prioritize my health. I value myself and my body that is taking me through this life. This body that is so resilient even though I neglected it for WAY too long.
I lived with this 'on or off' dieting mentality for most of my adult life, and have finally found freedom. Let me help you to find YOUR freedom.
Together we can find the way back to your best self, or in some cases CREATE your best self for the first time! I can help you realize and break through old patterns that no longer serve you. I can help clear up so much outdated MISINFORMATION when it comes to your health.
While losing weight is so important for so many reasons, I will always say that it is JUST THE BEGINNING! I want to help you to lose the weight the right way, with your HEALTH at the forefront.
"All you can change is yourself. But sometimes this changes EVERYTHING!".
This is my passion, to empower women to take control of their weight AND their future health!
